Most rooms have a telephone for your convenience. Telephones are also
available at the nurses’ stations and in some waiting areas, for use on
a limited basis. If your room is not equipped with a private phone, ask
your nurse or hospital volunteer for assistance. Public telephone booths
are located in the waiting rooms and the emergency room. Please see page
24 of this handbook for a listing of important telephone numbers.
To make a local call, dial 7, and the number you wish to call.
To make a long-distance call, dial 7, then 0, then the area code and
number you wish to call. Long-distance calls cannot be charged to your
hospital bill. You must make long-distance calls collect or charge them
to your home number or telephone credit card number.
Cellular phones are permitted in the hospital on a limited basis. Please
be courteous to those around you and be aware of privacy issues. Please
refrain from using the camera feature on cell phones while in the
hospital. Also, please be aware of your surroundings, as the use of cell
phones is not permitted in some areas such as ICU, the Emergency
Department, and the Radiology Department. Please put your phone on
vibrate or in silent mode when entering the hospital.
